Memory Box
Cookie Policy
Last updated · 15 September 2026
This page explains how Memory Box uses cookies and similar technologies, and how you can choose which optional storage to allow.
What cookies and browser storage do
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. Memory Box also uses local storage, session storage and a browser database to keep information on your device. This policy covers those technologies as well as cookies.
They help you stay signed in, keep track of the Memory Box you are using, complete uploads and return to unfinished work. Optional analytics helps us understand how the website is used. We do not use marketing or advertising cookies.
Your cookie choice
The first time you visit, the cookie notice offers three choices. Essential storage remains available because it supports the service you ask to use. Optional analytics is off until you allow it.
- Accept all: allow optional analytics as well as essential storage.
- Reject optional: use essential storage without optional analytics.
- Cookie settings: review the categories, switch optional analytics on or off and save your choice.
Essential storage
Account and security storage helps us recognise your signed-in session, protect access to your memories and prevent misuse. Supabase supports sign-in and Cloudflare Turnstile provides security checks. Turnstile may use security-related challenge storage depending on the check and its configuration.
Feature storage keeps the selected Memory Box, upload-resumption information, guest-session limits and information needed to return to an unfinished contribution. Some unfinished photos, recordings and answers may be stored in your browser so you can continue. Selected sign-in preferences, such as your phone country, may also be remembered.
We also store your cookie choice so you do not have to answer the notice on every page. Rejecting optional analytics does not remove the storage needed for these service features.
Optional analytics
With your permission, we can use Google Analytics to measure use of the website. Its _ga and _ga_* cookies help distinguish visits and sessions. The Google tag is not loaded before you allow analytics.
Our Google page reports use general page categories and the title Memory Box. They exclude names, individual photo or person identifiers, private sharing tokens, URL query strings, fragments and referring-page addresses. We do not include your photographs, recordings, story text or contact-form messages in these page reports.
Some sharing and account pages can also record optional usage events directly with Memory Box. They use a session identifier for the browser tab to understand actions such as opening a story, sharing an album or completing a contribution.
Google receives technical information associated with an analytics request, such as browser, device and network information. The Privacy Policy explains how personal information is used and how to contact us about it.
Storage and lifetimes
The storage you see depends on the features you use and whether you allow analytics. These are the main items used by the current website.
- Cookie choice (memorybox.analytics-choice.v1 in local storage): records whether you allow optional analytics, for up to 180 days.
- Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_* cookies): optional visit and session identifiers, configured to expire after up to 180 days without extending that expiry on each visit.
- Memory Box usage analytics (memorybox.v4.event-session in session storage): an optional identifier lasting for the browser-tab session.
- Supabase sign-in (authentication cookies beginning sb- and ending in auth-token, sometimes split into numbered parts): maintain your account session. The current browser-cookie configuration allows up to 400 days; sign-out, session expiry or a security action can end access sooner.
- Selected Memory Box (wbw_active_memory_box cookie): remembers which box you are using, for up to 365 days.
- Unfinished contribution access (a secure recovery cookie): allows a contribution to be resumed, with a cookie lifetime of up to 30 days. The contribution itself may expire sooner.
- Upload and feature storage (local or session storage and the browser database): supports upload recovery, unfinished recordings and sign-in choices. Some items are removed when the task is completed; others remain until replaced or you clear website data.
- Security checks (Cloudflare Turnstile challenge information): use and lifetime depend on the security check and Cloudflare configuration.
Change your mind or clear stored data
Use the Cookie settings link in the Your cookie choice section of this policy at any time. Turn optional analytics off and save your choice to stop further optional collection. We clear the Google Analytics cookies and Memory Box usage-session identifier on this browser when you reject optional analytics.
Changing your choice does not automatically delete reports already received. Your choice applies to this browser; make the same choice on other browsers or devices you use.
Your browser settings also let you inspect, block and delete cookies and website data. Blocking essential storage may stop sign-in, uploads or recovery working. Clearing website data can remove guest access and unfinished work, so keep copies of anything important.
